Clan Macleod Parliament 2023

July 22, 2023 – July 28, 2023

The Dunvegan has a long history dating back to the 1850s. From research and a little insider knowledge, it would appear that the 25th Clan Chief, Norman MacLeod commissioned the Dunvegan Inn around 1858, from plans worked on by esteemed Inverness architect Alexander Ross. The property was originally recorded as the ‘Factors House’.

This World Gathering of the Clan MacLeod – the Clan Parliament, normally happens every four years and was due to happen in 2022. Due to the public health crisis the event has been postponed to 2023, starting July 22nd and finishing July 28th.

The Parliament usually has a full itinerary of events, classes and day trips – with plenty of time to socialise with fellow clansfolk. Further information on the Clan Macleod Parliament can be found on the website https://clanmacleod.org/our-events/parliaments/ More details on events are expected to be published in due course.

If you are looking for accommodation during the Clan Parliament 2023, we still have rooms available.

If you would like to eat with us, we are taking advance table bookings – please email or call us.

Welcome Back

Much has changed in the past 4 months for us all, and the future holds new challenges and uncertainties to overcome.

But we are committed, with more resolve than ever, to creating enjoyable, memorable experiences in our cosy, informal setting – providing food, drink and accommodation to local patrons and visitors alike.

We were excited, and to be honest a little apprehensive, by the Scottish Government’s announcement, that hotels and other hospitality businesses should prepare to reopen from the 15th July 2020 – providing the situation continues to improve.

Since closing in March we have been planning our ‘bounce back’ – to make us more resilient, more sustainable and in a position to be of greater service to our customers even in potential lockdown situations in the future. We’ve got exciting news on the Deli side of our business and some new food & drink offerings as well – more details to follow soon.

Likewise we have been making careful preparations to make your stay in the cafe, restaurant & rooms, as safe as we can make it, whilst continuing to create a relaxed and comfortable environment for you to enjoy.

To book one of our six rooms, reserve online at Make a Booking

To eat & drink with us, check out our Opening Hours.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon

…and so it begins

23 September…and so it begins

We’re really pleased to introduce Laura, our Environmental & Events Coordinator who is taking the lead within our business for all aspects of our environmental, recycling & reuse activity. This blog article, written by her is the first of a regular commitment to update and be accountable for our action in this area.

Tim & Blair

The Dunvegan has grown out of a dream to provide a relaxing meeting place for the locals, whilst welcoming folk from further afield. We are a café-bar with rooms in the North-West of Skye, with sustainability and community are at the heart of what we offer.

Our environmental vision is influenced by thoughtfulness, collaboration and responsibility, and with this vision in mind, we hope to serve our local area but also raise awareness of the broader impact of how we operate.

We have now been open for a month and we have already been working hard to create and work towards our environmental vision. We have inherited a lot of old stock and resources which we have been using as mindfully as possible. Although some things have had to go to landfill, we have been creative in many other areas. Many items such as glassware and crockery have been sold to locals, businesses and donated to charity. Furniture is being reused in both the public and staff areas.

We have been trialing various Eco-friendly cleaning products across the business – watch this space – and used local paints when we were re-decorating. Some of the furniture we bought it is antique or re-purposed such as old school chairs for the restaurant and a haberdashery unit for displaying cakes.

We have also begun to identify and work with local food producers, and are establishing more time-efficient recycling zones.

There is plenty to be done over the next few years but the small steps we are beginning to take are already looking promising!
