23 September…and so it begins
We’re really pleased to introduce Laura, our Environmental & Events Coordinator who is taking the lead within our business for all aspects of our environmental, recycling & reuse activity. This blog article, written by her is the first of a regular commitment to update and be accountable for our action in this area.

The Dunvegan has grown out of a dream to provide a relaxing meeting place for the locals, whilst welcoming folk from further afield. We are a café-bar with rooms in the North-West of Skye, with sustainability and community are at the heart of what we offer.
Our environmental vision is influenced by thoughtfulness, collaboration and responsibility, and with this vision in mind, we hope to serve our local area but also raise awareness of the broader impact of how we operate.
We have now been open for a month and we have already been working hard to create and work towards our environmental vision. We have inherited a lot of old stock and resources which we have been using as mindfully as possible. Although some things have had to go to landfill, we have been creative in many other areas. Many items such as glassware and crockery have been sold to locals, businesses and donated to charity. Furniture is being reused in both the public and staff areas.
We have been trialing various Eco-friendly cleaning products across the business – watch this space – and used local paints when we were re-decorating. Some of the furniture we bought it is antique or re-purposed such as old school chairs for the restaurant and a haberdashery unit for displaying cakes.
We have also begun to identify and work with local food producers, and are establishing more time-efficient recycling zones.
There is plenty to be done over the next few years but the small steps we are beginning to take are already looking promising!
